Getting Started

SkySpot SA is available on Google Play. Search for "SkySpot SA" in the Play Store, or follow the direct download link from our website. The app is free to download and use.

Once installed, open the app and you'll be greeted with the sign-in screen. If you already have an account, tap "Sign In" — otherwise, continue to the next step to create one.

You have two options for creating an account:

• Email & Password — Enter your email address and choose a secure password. You'll need to verify your email in the next step.
• Google Sign-In — Tap the Google button to sign in with your Google account. Fast and seamless.

If you signed up with email and password, check your inbox for a verification link from SkySpot SA. Tap the link to verify your email address.

Email verification is required before you can submit spots, vote on content, leave comments, or vouch for other pilots. It's a one-time step that unlocks the full experience.

The bottom navigation bar has four main tabs:

• Map — The interactive map showing fields, spots, pilots, aircraft, and airspace layers across South Africa.
• Fields — Browse 109+ registered flying fields from SAMAA and RCASA data.
• Spots — Discover community-submitted points of interest for flying.
• Community — Connect with fellow pilots, view profiles, and access the leaderboard.

Start by exploring the map to see what's near you. Tap on any marker to view details about a field or spot.

Visit a flying field or community spot and tap the "I'm Flying Here" button to check in. This lets other pilots know you're active at that location, and your check-in appears as a gold marker on the map.

Each check-in earns you 5 XP, or 8 XP if you add a note describing your session. Check-ins auto-expire after 3 hours.
