Submitting a Community Spot

What's a Spot?
Spots are community-submitted points of interest for flying. They include scenic locations, testing grounds, photo spots, freestyle parks, and any other places where pilots regularly fly. Unlike registered fields, spots are contributed and curated by the SkySpot SA community.
Start Your Submission
Tap the "+" button on the Spots tab, or navigate to Submit Spot from the menu. You'll need a verified email address before you can submit a spot. The submission form walks you through 5 clear steps.
The 5-Step Form
Each step collects specific information about your spot:
Drop a pin on the map to mark the exact location of your spot. Pan and zoom to position the marker precisely.
Give your spot a descriptive name and choose a category: scenic, testing, freestyle, photo, or another fitting option.
Select which aircraft types work well at this location from the 9 available categories.
Note any hazards (power lines, trees, water, etc.) and describe the ground surface type (grass, gravel, concrete, etc.).
Add photos of the spot and write a detailed description to help other pilots know what to expect.
Moderation
After you submit, your spot enters "Pending" status. A moderator will review your submission and take one of three actions:
- Approve — Your spot goes live on the map. Earn 30 XP (or 50 XP if it's your first approved spot!).
- Reject — The spot doesn't meet quality or safety standards. You'll see the reason.
- Request Changes — Minor issues need fixing before approval.
Tip: Add good descriptions and photos to increase your chance of approval. Be specific about hazards — moderators appreciate thorough safety information!
After Approval
Once approved, your spot appears on the map as a teal marker. As the spot owner, you have special privileges:
- Edit your spot — Update the name, category, aircraft types, hazards, and surface type via the "Edit Spot" button.
- Monitor engagement — See likes, comments, and check-ins from other pilots.
Other pilots can like, comment on, and report your spot. Spots with safety concerns can be flagged for moderator review.
Note: Maximum 2 spot submissions per day to prevent spam. Quality over quantity!
